ALBA STILL A TARGET

Jordi Alba has been a target for Barcelona for quite some time now. However, it seems that the midfielder will be staying with Valencia for the time being. His agent recently confirmed that Jordi Alba is in negotiations with Valencia over the extension of his current contract. This would mean that Barcelona would miss on their target in the summer. The Barcelona squad has been in need of a reshaping this summer, after not impressing as well as in recent years in the domestic and European matches. The freshening is required in order to bring Barcelona back to the level they were only one season ago.

The Spanish international Jordi Alba is regarded as the perfect target for Barcelona given that he has all the requirements for playing for a big club like Barcelona. His contract will be coming to an end in 2013, which means that he is a great asset for any club due to the Bosman transfer. However, it seems that Barcelona’s wishes of signing the player on a relatively low transfer fee in the summer has been quashed after the player’s agent admitted that his client is currently in talks with the club Valencia over the possibility of potentially extending his current contract beyond the 2013.

“We are making progress. Talks are heading in the right direction,” a source told Superdeporte. It has been reported that both the club and player are very much unified in terms of the length of the contract, but are still way apart when it comes to the player’s wages. The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best defenders in the nation. He is expected to come as a replacement for the ageing Dani Alves. Daniel Alves was once regarded as the best right back, but lack of competition has slowed down his growth.
